Enhancing Taiwan's ABF Substrate Resilient Supply Chain - Global ABF Substrate Industry Valued at $9.6 Billion, with Taiwan Holding 45%

2023-10-23

The global ABF substrate industry is currently valued at an impressive $9.6 billion, Taiwan takes 45% of the global market share. Taiwan is a leading producer of ABF substrates; however, there is a critical concern regarding the dependency on Japan for one of the essential materials, ABF build-up film, which accounts for a staggering 99% of imports. This over-reliance on imports poses a significant risk, particularly as several Japanese ABF substrate manufacturers like Ibiden and Shinko also engage in ABF production. As ABF material plays a vital role in the semiconductor manufacturing process, there is a potential for it to be classified as an export-controlled item by the Japanese government. To mitigate this risk and secure the supply chain, Taiwan must develop its own independent and controllable build-up film technology.

To address the challenges of material supply and manufacturing capacity constraints posed by Japanese producers,WaferChem has been dedicated to the independent research and development of advanced semiconductor encapsulation film materials and ABF substrate materials in recent years. Waferchem is the sole Taiwanese enterprise leading in the development and production of build-up film materials for ABF substrates, aiming to foster the localization of Taiwan's semiconductor material supply chain.

WaferChem is the first Taiwan domestic company to independently research and produce Taiwan Build-Up Film (TBF) materials. These TBF products have already received verification from numerous domestic and international companies and are being gradually shipped in small quantities. This achievement establishes WaferChem as one of the few companies globally with the production capacity for critical ABF substrate materials, specifically build-up films.

WaferChem has been unwavering in its focus on the research and production of ABF substrate materials, striving to achieve the domestic production of ABF substrate critical materials. In the future, Waferchem will further intensify its research and development efforts, expand its market reach, and enhance its overall competitiveness. This effort will result in a more resilient Taiwan ABF substrate supply chain, reducing the potential risks associated with external supply countries.

WaferChem's commitment and accomplishments mark a significant milestone in achieving a self-reliant supply chain for Taiwan's ABF substrate industry. This strengthens Taiwan's position in the semiconductor sector, better equipping it to address potential supply risks in the future. It also serves as a strong driver for Taiwan's industry, contributing to the country's competitiveness on the global stage.
